Continuous Quality Improvement

To uphold the standards of high-quality expanded learning in Tulsa, The Opportunity Project conducts assessments and program observations during the fall and spring semesters. These evaluations encompass safety, efficacy, and the impact of programming on youth development. The Opportunity Project utilizes SAYO-Y (Survey for Academic and Youth Outcomes) to center the voice of youth and PQA (Program Quality Assessment) to measure engagement and program quality.

We ensure that afterschool and summer programs offered are enriching, high-quality experiences that youth are excited to attend.

Evaluation Tools:

  • Youth Program Quality Assessment (YPQA)
A validated instrument that is designed to measure the quality of youth programs and identify staff training needs.

  • Social & Emotional Learning Program Quality Assessment (SEL PQA)
An efficient and reliable observational tool for assessing practices that support social and emotional learning. The SEL PQA builds on the research-validated Youth Program Quality Assessment.

  • Survey of Academic and Youth Outcomes-Youth Survey (SAYO-Y)
Use SAYO-Y to survey youth participants and measure their program experiences, future expectations, and sense of competence. SAYO-Y is designed for programs serving grades 4-12.

I want to thank you very much for this incredible opportunity. There is such a value in finding an assessment tool that represents areas of growth and strengths. This opens the opportunity in striving for quality programs and teachers attainable. I TRULY enjoyed the training and found it very valuable.

How do youth feel about afterschool programming?

The Survey of Academic and Youth Outcomes (SAYO) gives a chance for youth engaged in programming to share their thoughts and feedback. Here is what we are hearing from the youth that we serve.

Of 800 validated responses in Fall 2024:

of youth responded positively to “I get to try new things.”

of youth responded positively to “I like coming here.”

of youth responded positively to “Adults here care about what I think.”
